Hi all,

Have tried to tag as many relevant Australian plant people as I could (i.e., people who I recall having either observed or identified phrase name species at some point), but there are so so many (which is a good thing!), so apologies for the people I undoubtedly missed (please feel free to tag them here). In short, I've made this project to help keep track of observations of phrase name/undescribed plant species. Project link here: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/undescribed-australian-plants-phrase-name-species-and-other-entities

See project description pasted below:

In the world of Australian botany, undescribed taxa can be assigned a 'phrase name', i.e., an informal, formulaic name helpful for tracking entities within each of these units (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phrase_name). Whilst some databases, such as the ALA, have pages for these taxa, iNaturalist does not allow IDs to be made since they are still undescribed.

This project is therefore designed to be a useful tool for collating all observations of phrase name species so that they can be easily tracked, searched for, and (hopefully) identified at a later date when formally described. I believe this project will also be useful for identification purposes; there are many phrase name species (especially within WA) for which there are no photographs or descriptions online, which can make identifying them difficult.

Please feel free to also add observations of plants which are recognised as undescribed, but which are yet to be assigned a phrase name.

When adding an observation to the project, you'll be prompted with an observation field I created for noting which phrase name species your observation is. This field isn't mandatory, but will make searching for all observations of a given species much easier. If you're uploading an observation of an undescribed, but non-phrase name entity, please note in the description or a comment it's affiliations, etc.
