GBS 2023 was another great success

GBS 2023 was another great success for #citizenscience.
New participants, observations and recorded species, including rare and endangered species.
At least 160 species were recorded for the first time on iNaturalist (at a global or local level). The countries of South America have recorded the highest amphibian biodiversity recorded in the world! Live our species!
The general report on observations from each country will be published soon. The big bioblitz is the biggest biodiversity event during spring in our hemisphere. It is a collaboration between scientists and nature lovers united for dissemination and environmental preservation. If you love biodiversity or photography, join us in the next event in 2024.

What Level Bioblitzer are you?

This is a quick blog to try and rate the different levels of bioblitz enthusiasm we see from users during the GSB.

Of course, there are many reasons people participate and not everyone is chasing the leaderboards! This is hopefully a funny way to look at the different approaches, giving our respects to people who do give it their all for 4 days straight, and encouraging those who are new to the bioblitzin'.

https://www.greatsouthernbioblitz.org/post/bioblitzin-what-level-are-you

Cheers all and have a great holiday season!

Calling for help to ID observations!

Hello everyone, how are your uploads going?

We are still looking for support with identifications, every contribution helps, while acknowledging that some observations can't be further identified across the southern hemisphere, would you like to help identify the records we've all made?
first the most basic help to move observations from unknown to the most basic category is those that are not identified
Unknown

Did you know you can change the filter to narrow in on your country or local area?

To help observations reach research grade:

Banner

Hi everyone! Still a little way off before the GSB this year. It is certainly feeling like winter here at the moment and I will be excited when the weather starts to warm up, the flowers come out and the insects are everywhere again!

I hope you like this year's banner, featuring a collage of the favourite observations taken during the 2022 GSB, representing each of the southern hemisphere continents.

The observations are:
