Edmands Park, Newton, October 6, 2020

It was a beautiful day today. It was a little warmer than it has been the past few days, but not too warm. The leaves had changed more than the last time I was there, and as I walked deeper into the park the colors became more vibrant. I decided to walk down a path that I had not walked through before. It was interesting to be looking for fungi on this nature walk. Instead of just searching for living organisms in general, it was interesting to be focusing on fungi, which I thought were a little harder to find. However, if I had not been actively searching for the fungi, I probably would not have noticed them at all. While they were a little tougher to find, I was still surprised by the number of fungi scattered throughout the park. Almost all of the fungi that I found were growing on trees, which ties together nicely with this module. While some of the fungi were not benefitting trees that were alive (as most of the fungi were growing on fallen dead trees), it was interesting to see how they grew on so many trees. I wonder if they were in the process of breaking down the dead trees. Additionally, I saw a woodpecker and thought it would be a nice addition to his journal entry.
