I’m a historian by training, with a broad interest base that includes many scientific topics. I still have a lot to learn about identifying wildlife, but I hope to expand my understanding of plants and animals through contributing observations to iNaturalist. I have a special love of banksias, and my handle is inspired by the Aboriginal Kabi Kabi word “wallum” for the banksia aemula.

I was inspired to join iNaturalist in order to continue, in a modest way, the observation work of my dad (coochierocker). I think the 2 000+ observations that he made in just a few short years are a pretty great legacy. As I turn to the natural world for solace, I also find wonder and fascination in the infinite diversity and beauty that’s evolved on our amazing planet. I’ll always be grateful to my dad for helping me to see and value it.
