I just had a question about taxon changes on iNaturalist, if this is not the right place to ask, please tell me. I was curious to know, why does these taxon changes take so long to be implemented on the database? The paper linked was published four years ago, in 2020.

Inaturalist recommends waiting before making a change to gather feedback from different curators. And even then, there is always someone who objects for stability reasons (since large-scale taxonomic changes like this always end up leaving observations "misidentified" due to "unintentional disagreements", etc.) See here: https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/567550
