Thanks to all SACReD divers, and contributing taxonomists!

Job well done, SACReD divers and associates. We have surpassed our goal of 1,000 records by the end of 2018, and have now reached more than 1,400.

From our survey results between 2007 and 2016, almost 500 marine species from South Australia have entered into the system , plus dozens of currently undescribed (unnamed) species. Also included in our group set are some first species records for South Australia, and several extensions of the published geographic range.

The SACReD records have contributed to numerous species-specific and location-specific pages on iNaturalist. some of these will be listed in future posts, for those of you who've not yet seen them.

Thanks to all the taxonomists from SA, other parts of Australia and overseas, who have assisted our project in 2018 and 2019. Particular thanks to Dr Phil Alderslade from CSIRO in Hobart, and Ms Kate Naughton from Victoria, who were engaged for a portion of our 2018 community grant from the Wettenhall Environment Trust, to assist with coral and echinoderm ID respectively.

We are aiming to provide more photographic records of the amazing species richness and diversity in South Australian waters during the next few months, currently in a voluntary capacity.

Thanks again to all who have participated in SACReD field work over the years, for your contributions to this globally useful platform. Thanks also to national and state funding bodies who have intermittently provided community grants for our project work during the past decade. This marine photographic resource would not have been possible without your support.

800 records

Thanks to all who've uploaded their SACReD field trip records to this project.

So far, 800 records, and 356 species have been catalogued in this iNaturalist project since March 2018. We're aiming for more than 1000 records and 500+ species by the end of the year.

The SACReD project records are also linked to a number of specific project pages, covering many of the major marine groups. That includes fishes (e.g. Australasian Fishes project from Australian Museum, and the Fishes of South Australia), gastropods, cephalopods, echinoderms, crustaceans, cnidarians, algae, and several others.

Well done to all South Australian naturalists. Your records are useful for research and education, from global to local scales.

Almost at 700!

Hi divers,

Thanks for adding your sightings to the project. We've almost reached 700 pages, and have documented more than 320 species in South Australia so far. Great job from all participants. Keep the pages coming! Who is going to add the 700th entry?

Cheers, Janine
