April Fungi

Easter fell on the weekend that would normally be our meeting and field trip, so our meeting was held a week later, and instead of a field trip members were encouraged to join in activities at the Moorabool Mushroom Festival.

I don't know how many members attended the festival, but here is a link to all Victorian fungi observations made by members over the course of the weekend of 15th and 16th April:

City Nature Challenge

The City Nature Challenge is a world-wide community science event to help people better understand – and therefore, take care of – nature that lives in and around urban areas. This year it runs from 28 April - 1 May.

Greater Melbourne and Greater Geelong are the two cities in Victoria taking part. Geelong's area extends right to the edge of Ballarat, as it includes all of Moorabool Shire. See the map on their project page here:
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2023-greater-geelong

If you would like to help out Geelong, any observations made in their area over next weekend will be automatically added to their tally.

The Geelong Field Naturalists have produced 6 suggested tours of parts of the Geelong region, which can be found on their website here:

These guides could be handy for anyone planning a nature-based day-trip, not just for the City Nature Challenge.
