I noticed a new designation showing up on the photos. Research Grade.
What does that mean?
Anyhow we are out the door in a few minutes to get more great photos of pollinators and whatever else we can capture on film.
Hope everyone else is able to get out and enjoy this glorious fall weather!
We found this golden velvet ant on the sandy beach of L. Draper. We saw two types--this golden color and the bright fire engine red color which was quite a big larger as well.
Tentative ID: Dasymutilla Aureola

We introduced data quality grades a little ways back to help us distinguish observations that are both complete (have the basic what/where/when) and accurate (community agrees with the ID, doesn't think the location looks fishy, etc). You can read some more at

Thanks you for the prompt response. I was searching the site for an explanation. I guess I missed the page.
