I study how animals adapt to environmental change. I am especially interested in animals that live in extreme environments. For the past 25 years, my research has focused on a montane leaf beetle living at very high elevation in California's Sierra Nevada, but before that I worked in marine systems. I am a Professor of Biology at Santa Clara University. In addition to my research interests in all things crunchy and slimy, I teach a course in California Natural History.
