Fall Walk through the Woods

Today I took a walk through the woods by the Reservoir. I found some trails I hadn't been on before. It was a beautiful day with a slight breeze. It was chillier than past days have been. The sun was shining and it was a cloudless sky. I walked without anyone else or music. I found a lot of fungi, some berry-like plants, and other plants. The fungi was on many sticks on the ground. It also was growing on the shaded parts of some trees. I also saw some squirrels. The leaves were beginning to turn vibrant fall colors. My favorite time of year! It felt nice to be in nature by myself with no other distractions. I think it provides a place to think about things clearly and be at peace.

New Hampshire Hike

This past weekend, me and my roommates went to New Hampshire to go for a day hike up Mount Sentinel. It was a beautiful day and a lot warmer than we expected. I have done the hike before, but it was a lot steeper than I remembered it being. Although it was supposed to be a relatively shorter hike, it took a long time to get up the mountain, with many water breaks and off-trail diversions. From the top, we could see at least three other lates. It was a beautiful view. There were many types of fungi and mosses. We saw lots of squirrels and chipmunks and some birds. There was also a variety of plants, large and small. It was interesting to see how the plant life changed as we got farther up the mountain. As more sunlight reached the plants, they became shorter and skinnier with a tougher exterior, while plants closer to the base of the mountain were taller to try to get closer to the sunlight. This was a beautiful way to enjoy the day and see the multi-colored foliage of fall from the top.
