Nature Walk: Animals

This morning I went for a walk around campus at Providence College. It was a crisp but sunny day and there weren't many people out around campus. Along my walk, I saw many different species of birds and squirrels. At times, it was difficult to get good pictures of the animals as they would run/ fly away as I moved closer. There were many places around campus with trees and bushes and it was easy to find animals in these areas. I was surprised by how many animals I was able to find. I saw one type of bird, which I identified as a Northern Mockingbird, that was very different looking. I looked up a description of the bird online and was able to find a picture of one that looked just like it. The tail of this bird was very distinct and it had a white stripe across its wings. Overall I enjoyed my nature walk greatly and was happy to have seen so many different animals in such a small area.

Nature Walk : Plants

Today I took a walk with my dog around my grandparents neighborhood. I decided this would be a good time for a nature walk as they have lots of wild plants around their home. It was a cool crisp fall day and the sky was cloudy above us as we walked along the woods. As I walked I saw a variety of different plants as well as trees. I also saw an abundance of beautiful wild flowers. As my dog pulled me along the path I managed to take pictures of just a few of the things I saw. Much of what I observed was abundant in the area and was easily identified. Despite the cold climate, my walk was still enjoyable, but definitely not as beautiful as my walk along the res a few weeks ago. I saw many insects along my walk as well and many birds above but solely focused on the plants seen for this nature walk.

Nature Walk 1: around the res

On Sunday September 15th I went for a walk around the reservoir. The weather was warm and sunny and walking around the beautiful res was both a relaxing and enjoyable experience. As I walked around the loop I saw majestic white swans, flocks of brown (Canada?) geese and if I were to have looked harder into the water I'm sure I would have seen many more interesting organisms. As I walked, I also noticed dozens of species of plants covering the sides of the trail. I noticed many types of wild flowers and took pictures of two of them. These two flowers look relatively similar at first glance but upon further inspection are completely different species. The res was a great place to do my first nature walk and I look forward finding many more organisms that I have yet to discover here in the future.
