How to snap a butterfly?

Open, close.

They're open, then they quickly close.

My shaking hands try in vain to hold a camera steady and to click in time to capture a pic of a butterfly while its wings are spread. It's an incredibly challenging feat for an iNaturalist novice - especially when waiting in 100 degree Texas heat, and quite possibly standing in an ant bed.

Much respect to those who slog the trail before me, carrying patience and skill to capture wonderfully clear images of these winged ones. How they do it, I have no idea but if anyone has advice please share.

Happy exploring,
CS
