This is a scorpionfly in the genus Panorpa, but it is not Panorpa nuptialis which is the expected species in Louisiana and Texas (and is mainly a fall season species). This insect was collected by Dr. Abbott and will eventually be keyed out, but perhaps someone knows it? BG shows almost no Louisiana records except Panorpa nuptialis and another which this is not either.
