Description

This Goldfinch was so tiny and so cute! They were vocalizing in the Coast Live Oaks above Karena and I for over an hour.

It pooped for us.

Description

On north side of shady double-bridged stream canyon, growing both on ground and up into toyon with berries. With native blackberry.

Dense poison oak, native honeysuckle, and native blackberry near top of steep bank east of service road.

Description

Lrge, almost bare native honeysuckle in deciduous bush immediately west of dense stand of native blackberry, with more native blackberry beneath, S. side of road. For ID, note opposite leaves and form.

Description

One of many on ground in these deeply shady oak woods, with very large vines in trees and sometimes sprawled on ground. This is one of the few plants in the understory now.

Description

Patch at least 3 m, well above trail leaves brown for winter. One of many above and below trail leading south from Central Meadow, all with brown leaves now. Should be spectacular in bloom. Most common semi-woody or woody shrubbery in this area, along with honeysuckle.

Description

At least 30 plants scattered above and below at least 60 feet of trail, maybe further. Leaves brown now, but should be spectacular in bloom.

Description

About 15 ft. row of sticky monkey flower, currently leaves brown, about 20 ft above trail more or less isocontour. Why does monkey flower grow in rows like this?

Description

Row of monkey flower about 40 ft below trail, more or less isocontour. With seedling oaks, which are scattered throughout these woods. There also are a lot of smallish oak stumps and dead oaks. Possibly this steep west-facing slope is the limit of where they can survive.
