It's a long shot, but I saw this cool, 3 cm long grasshopper-like insect on a twig at night. Its bright red front seemed "wrong" but I was called away before I could get better photos (oh, the trials of hiking with non-iNatters).
3rd query for now about whether this is a Carex, or something similar, suitable for riparian planting, ngā mihi nui
Found in our decomissioned long drop. Never seen one with markings quite like this one. Is this unique to the Wairarapa east coast?
