I recently attended a Cactaceae workshop taught by the Cylindropuntia Queen, Michelle Cloud - Hughes hosted by SoCal Bot, who reviewed recent name changes of Mammillaria, Coryphantha, and Echinocactus.
For Mammillaria, everything with hooked spines occurring west of Pecos, NM. has been changed to Cochemiea.
FNA & Jepson efloras have not updated with the new changes, World Plants have and below is some one of the research papers on the diversification of Mammillaria and Cochemiea.

Anyhoo, this is the first Cochemiea sp. that I’ve ever seen crested.
Cool stuff!
