While photographing Familiar Bluets and Common Green Darners, I was being closely buzzed by small dark dragonflies; but none would land so I could make an ID.
As I started back down the path a Variegated Meadowhawk landed at my feet, and remained long enough for a few photos before disappearing. I walked the preserve again to see if I could find more, or perched, and I had no luck.
This is my first Variegated sighting, so I'm thrilled to add it to my list. It's also checks off my first meadowhawk of the year.
