Walking Irises (Genus Trimezia)

Date

February 26, 2020 10:09 AM +07

Description

Iris is a genus of 260-300 species of flowering plants with striking flowers. The name is taken from the Greek word for rainbow, which is also the name for the Greek rainbow goddess, Iris. Some authors claim that the name refers to the variety of flower colors found among many species. Apart from being a scientific name, iris is also widely used as a common name for all Iris species, as well as some that are included in other closely related genera. The common name for some species is 'flag', while plants from the Scorpiris subgenus are widely known as 'junos', especially in horticulture. This is a popular garden flower. In water purification, yellow iris (I. pseudacorus) is often used. The roots are usually planted on a substrate (for example lava stone) in a reed set. The roots then improve water quality by consuming nutrient pollutants, such as from agricultural runoff. This very aggressive farmer is now considered a dangerous weed and is banned in several US states where he is found to clog natural drains.

Description

Single-seeded (or monocotyledonous) plants are one of two large groups of flowering plants that are classically taught; the other group is twisted or dicotyledonous plants. The most distinctive feature of monocots is that they have a single seed because they only have one leaf, fibrous roots, leaf leaves, one-seeded plant, parallel and ribbon-shaped leaf bones. This group is recognized as a taxon (as a class or subclass) in various plant classification systems and gets various names, such as Monocotyledoneae, Liliopsida, and Liliidae.
