Vicious predator resting on the bones of its prey
AOR gravid female. Photographed, measured, and moved in direction of travel. Ground temperature was 90F, humidity is decently high. Ambient temperature was upper 80’s though I forgot to take exact measurement. The animal was not very defensive, never offered to bite and only musked after approximately twenty seconds of handling. Interestingly, a transparent liquid oozed out of this snakes mouth after handling for a while. I assume it had just drank. Crossing road between two water filled ditches.
Is anyone in north Texas studying crayfish? 6 holes in our grant garden at the Butterfly Trail in Mesquite. They tend to get trampled.
Nice defensive lass, would not let go until body made contact with ground for a few seconds. Successful opisthoglyphous envenomation, very slight swelling and initially very minor bleeding. Bite mark darkened a bit after about 24hrs and is now nearly invisible.
Last picture in situ, going upstream.
