Observer

Date

September 6, 2020 09:48 AM AEST

Description

EUCALYPT FOREST

Observations of adjacent areas of wet and dry sclerophyll forest were carried out in September 2020, near the picnic area at the park entrance.

A slow-moving bushfire in the Lower Beechmont area (to the north and west of Beechmont Rd) burnt for a number of days in early November, 2019. Residents were evacuated on 8 and 9 Nov. This fire caused some relatively minor property damage.

Note: This blaze was not the Sarabah fire (of Sep 2019) that burnt a significant area to the south and southwest (including Binna Burra).

Observations during Sep 2020 showed scorching visible well up the trunks of some trees, and it appeared that the fire had killed a number of smaller trees. Some eucalypts were resprouting from trunk and branches, while at ground level reseeders were common.
