Género Boehmeria, Especie Boehmeria nivea. Nombre común Ramio. Especie de la familia de las urticáceas, de procedencia asiática. Alcanza una altura de entre 1 y 2,5 metros, la hoja tiene forma de corazón, de 7 a 15 cm de ancho y de 7 a 15 de largo, blanquecinas y con vellosidad en el envés. De su corteza se obtiene una fibra textil llamada ramio. El ramio blanco es cultivado en China, mientras que otra variedad, el ramio verde, tiene las hojas más pequeñas y crece en ambientes tropicales. En el Extremo Oriente se usa como planta ornamental, pero según la historia tenía uso en los vendajes de las momias del antiguo Egipto. (Fuente: Wikipedia).
Especie observada en el Refugio Ecológico Molinuco, situado en la rivera oriental del río Pita, a 15 km de Sangolquí, valle del Callejón Interandino, a una altitud entre 2600 y 3780 msnm, 17 grados de temperatura, con lluvia moderada a intervalos de 1,9 mm, nubosidad del 39%, vientos de 7km/hr y humedad del 86%.
