This plant caught my eye from its maroon colour in comparison to the beige and green plants surrounding it. I would estimate it to be 75 centimeters in height. They are not something that I see regularly as well. It would be interesting to know which animals benefit from its growth and existence.
The obvious black spots on the leaves of this tree are what caught me eye. Intially, I assumed that something harmed the tree to make those spots appear. I now know that they are just a distinct characteristic of this plant. I do still wonder what scientifically makes them this way. Each leaf was about 10 centimeters at their tallest point and 8 centimeters across. The tree itself was probably 6 feet in height.
These flowers are less than one centimeter in diameter. I decided to take a photo of them because their white colour stood out in all of the surrounding greenery despite their petite size. I have never noticed them until this task of collecting observations. Now, I would like to know their proper name aside from their genus that I was suggested when identifying it on this app.
A plant growing from the rock.
I came across an area by the lake that was full of these, so I decided to include them as one of my observations. They were taller than 6 feet in height. I would like to know what about the water makes them grow collectively in that one area. They caught my eye with their visual similarity to the pampas grass that is commonly being used as home decor now.
There was a large gathering of these birds by the lake where I was going on a walk. They were all feeding on the grass. There was definitely more than 10 of them doing so. I see them regularly by this specific lake. They always catch my attention by how comfortable they are to be around and close to other humans going on a walk.
These have always caught my attention as I do my best to avoid them because it is such an annoyance to get them off clothing. It is a common plant in my area. They were a centimeter and a half to two centimeters in size. I was interested to know their name as I often refer to them as burrs. Now, I know that they are known as lesser burdock.
These white flowers caught my eye with the contrast in colour from the grass and greenery. I had no idea what they were as they are not common ones that I see. They are minute as I would estimate them to definitely be less than a centimeter in size.
Because purple is my favourite colour, I was drawn to these purple flowers. They are an uncommon plant for me to come across, so I am unsure of their name. They seem to be about 2 centimeters in size. I would love to know which environments and locations they thrive in.
This is one plant that I found in my backyard. I never noticed its presence before this assignment, but I admired its yellow and orange colour. That was the characteristic of it that caught my attention. Its leaves varied in size, but they were all less or equal to about 6 centimeters.
These berries growing in the wild caught my eye with their bright red colour. Each berry was probably a centimeter or less in size. I don't come across wild berries often in my nearby area. I discovered them when I went apple picking outside of my community. As I know it to be dangerous to eat wild berries, I would like to learn if these are safe to consume.
These caught my eye as they remind me of the burrs that get stuck on clothes, but with a red tint. Their colour definitely stuck out from all the other plants. I wonder what gives them this distinct colour. They were also about half the size of the burrs. It was my first time to come across these and notice them.
These were probably 20 centimeters in diameter and height. Personally, I was attracted to collecting it as an observation for its yellow colour. Also, the white fuzz was cotton- looking in my opinion and it caught my eye. I haven't come across something like that before. It would be nice to compare the goldenrods from other regions as this one is Canadian.
Tall plant with yellow-golden flowers
A plant that I see very often!
