Finally been able to take a picture of a Fernbird.
One-legged; same bird seen daily at site.
This is for the handful of sea gulls in the background of the picture.

deformed wing or feathers, appears promptly when ground is disturbed by weeding, unusually fearless in approaching. Not observed to fly, and may be surviving here beside busy road with benefit of food scraps thrown from cars or in litter

the "which NZ bird book" says welcome swallow, but has Pacific Swallow's scientific name so not sure which is the correct species :/
