My sketch from Kirsten's workshop. Armchair Adventure Festival
I observed the Bald Faced Hornets’ nest for the second time in the evening. I counted 8 of the hornets in a bunch at the entrance. When each one left the nest it took a path to the right. Even when I mistakenly stood in their path they showed no signs of aggression. When I moved to take a closer look with my binoculars they were black with white on their face, Targum, and stinger. I only observed 1 entrance but there may be one in the back however it is tucked deep in leaves and grass so unable to tell.
Female Wasp spider Argiope bruennichi, observed on a web built between tansy Tanacetum vulgare. There was another spider caught in the web- probably male after copulation. The observation included the spider catching and consuming a fly.
This observation is of a Hylaeus species and is expected to remain casual grade, and may be slightly inaccurate in depicting the depth or morphology.
