Listed in Meagher 2003 as Schizymenium bryoides but now returned to the Mielichhoferia as per A.J. Shaw & H.P.Ramsay (2013), Australian Mosses Online 69. Mielichhoferiaceae.
On earth bank on roadside. The glaucous foliage and large capsules are distinctive and make this relatively easy to recognise. The denticulate upper leaf margins and a costa that stops short of the tip aids identification as does the long sinuous cells in the upper leaf. The grainy "out of focus" appearance of the cells in the last image is due to striations on the leaf's surface which give the leaf the glaucous appearance

Terrible photo due to blinding glare and light conditions on the day. But I believe it's the only medium sized Gemmabryum that is red, grows on rock substrate and has a leaf shape with hairpoint like this. Formal record of species in Beechworth.

Sorry for not submitting whole shot. Not sure if this is the annual or perennial mission grass growing in road verge. Height is over 2 m but the coloring of the bristles may suggest the annual mission grass. The first photo shows inflorescence in different stages of development on the same stem and are to about 200 mm long.
