Morels growing close to willow (Salix sp.) krummholz in 4400m altitude (about potential treeline) on a North-facing slope. I have often been in spring on high altitude pastures of the Tibetan Plateau looking for caterpillar fungus (Ophiocordyceps sinensis) during my Mushroaming eco-tours, but I never found morels that high up before!
Morels are commercially collected in the Tibetan areas, mostly for the European and Chinese market. They are known as Khukhu Shamoo, Cuckoo mushroom, since they show up at the same time as the cuckoo returns. Lot's more on the ethno-mycology of morels in Tibet on my mushroaming.com webpages.

Spore largement ellipsoïdes, lisses, non guttulées, hyalines, surtout 25-30 x 18 µm
