Description

Rainy night. First night these were active. None calling, but encountered at least five individuals. This one was a little one.

Description
While recording toad calls, I was a bit surprised by how close this leopard frog was. It would call for a bit then move to a new spot, so was hard to triangulate its location. I finally did, but was unable to get pictures of him calling. The audio files have this male calling at some point in the chorus of peepers and toads.

Description
Air temperature was 45 °F (8 °C). Toads just emerged two nights ago so I was surprised to see at least eight amplexing pairs.

Crawling on my car near the Eastern bathrooms(on East side of Lake Sylvia state park.

Description
Fruiting beneath Western Hemlock and Sitka Spruce.
Staining: inky blackish(dingy blue then to dirty brown).
Cap: Areolate but irregularly so(not uniformly cracked throughout).
Harvested a single specimen.
Spore printed a portion of cap directly on a glass slide.
Spore print: faint olive brownish.
Mounted spore printed slide in Lugol’s solution.
Microscopy:
Spores: AMYLOID(tips are noticeably green in Lugol’s). See images of work.
Spores: elongate but many with a squared off/truncated end. Medium/Lg in size.
Dehydrated specimen and bagged for herbarium collection/genetic record.

Description
Fruit abundantly on Peltigera.
Final shots of the specimens laid out on black felt.
High on the edge of a deep ravine 100’s of feet above the Big Quilcene River.
Alan Rockefeller kept specimens for sequencing. Will look forward to his results.

Description
Single young fruiting beneath Douglas fir and Western Hemlock.
Stem: blue tones prevalent at base.
Stem apex staining red where handled(darkening to nearly cherry red once home).
Cap: staining red where handled.
Inosperma calamistratum does not stain red and has a scalier quality overall and generally less robust stature.
Odor: fishy.
Harvested specimen and dehydrated for herbarium collection/genetic record.
