Flowers axillary, subtended by a bract and a pair of keeled bracteoles, the apex of the inflorescence senescent or with a terminal flower.
Leaves not prominently twisted.
Flowers conspicuous, bracts (pherophylls) usually shorter than the flower. Corolla lobes equal to or less than the tube; corolla not closed by a thickened pad of tissue. Many branched shrubs of up to 1 m.
Style not elongating at anthesis, the stigma included or exposed by spreading corolla lobes.
Anthers manifest.
Corolla with adaxial hairs on tube and lobes, sepals > 4 mm, with adaxial hairs.
Sepal bases completely free.
Sepals 4 to 6 mm, with hairs on both surfaces. Shoot apex terminating in a flower.
