Was being attacked by a crow on the ground. I chased off the crow and gave it some time to recover. I was very close to it and it has gray and dark bands on sides. Later, it climbed a tree and was no longer there an hour later. Paw appeared slightly injured.

What an incredible encounter! I was just past Panorama Point, searching for White-tailed Ptarmigan when I turned around and saw it running up the snow towards me. It stopped and stared at me for a minute, before bouncing up the snow and continuing up the ridge following before going up and over the ridge and out of view. I got some great photos and took a few videos as well. Quite a surreal experience.

Under log. My second time seeing a rattler in the Berkeley Hills, in the exact same wood pile, no less! Looks like I know where I'll be going more often this summer (and where other people should be avoiding more often too haha).

My first rattlesnake sighting in the Berkeley Hills!!! I saw it out in the middle of the trail, chilling for the most part. It looked relatively young, no more than 2ft or so in length. I watched it for a good half hour and alerted other hikers to its presence before it slithered into a wood pile/woodrat nest adjacent to the trail. I'm pretty sure I heard plenty of rodents scurrying in there, which would provide good hunting for this fellow.
