Small grove at high elevation approximately 4000 m. Short trees. Small dense leaves. Reddish, shredding bark. Trees gnarled in shape.
Titirangi, Auckland.

Blue calcerous egg, laid on shell.
Soft cartilage. 19 cm long.
Feeding around high tide line. Footprint and bill probe hole.
Dead wash-up at high tide following rough seas.
Prominent bare pink skin area at base of heavy bill. Red eye. Solid black tip underflipper.
Reported to Department of Conservation, along with Little Blue Penguin body found in same location (iNat ID 204111775). DOC took the bodies away for further examination.
Possibly starved following moult as specimen looks emaciated (see prominent breastbone), according to DOC Ranger.
Washed up alive, moving.
Washed up alive at low tide, at dusk. Two separate Phronima found along the stretch of beach (see observation 216255091), and a few hollowed-out salp cases.
Washed up alive at low tide. Inside hollowed-out salp it uses for protection.
Washed up on sand. Appeared dead, not moving (pictures 1-7, 10,11,12). Started moving, alive. Transported with care to a deep rock pool with access to the ocean and kelp beds (picture 8, 9).
