the last 2 photos contrast a couple fruits of this with several co-occurring fruits of Carya ovata; the pic here of the trunk with the upper bark starting to peel is from the same tree that pics 11 & 12 (stem & leaf) were shot. the last 4 photos contrast the fruits of this population with those of 3 other species found recently in the general region.

Spectacular stand following dormant season burn of prairie remnant.
I thought this might be Euphorbia davidii but I don’t think the hairs on the lower leaf surfaces are stiff enough. Anyone know differently? Seeds aren’t mature yet. Very common garden weed in this 1870s-1880s neighborhood.
