This male mountain lion - a migrant from South Dakota - was infamously struck 41-miles east of Greenwich, CT. This was the first verifiable documentation of a cougar in Connecticut since the 1890s. The attributed location and time is from where it was struck by a car. There is no breeding population of cougars in New England, though they historically occupied every continental US state.

According to a USFWS biologist, this female was born at the Akron Zoo in 2021 and then 2 weeks later she was fostered into the den of a wild Red Wolf at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, NC. Last winter she was captured and placed in an acclimation pen on the refuge with a captive-born male. In mid-April 2023 she had a litter of pups and the family group was released into the wild in late May.

Image scanned from a slide taken August 22, 1999. We were doing field work on tortoises and iguanas for the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Galapagos National Park Service at the time. Estimate the true locality within a kilometer of this point.

This is a hybrid of Smew x Common Goldeneye (Mergellus albellus x Bucephala clangula) This hybrid is not yet in the taxon list of iNaturalist so I can't add the right taxonname. That's why it's now set to Ducks, Geese and Swans
