She was laying in the burrow head first so I could see her back end. When I started talking to her, she turned around to see what was going on and that’s how I got the picture of her face :) mid 80’s at 1:51pm and sunny. A few hours later, there was whispy cloud cover but I don’t think it was enough to produce rain.
WOW - DOR unfortunately.
Incredible pattern and color.
Black looks thinner than normal giving the over all bright orange appearance.
Another very old observation and photographs - information was previously captured in my logbook. This one from 1992. The last photo is a habitat shot. The snake was crawling about 10 feet off the ground on the rock face in the photo. It was a crazy situation as I had been hiking around for hours looking for snakes (specifically Rosy Boas) and didn't see a thing. I returned to where my truck was parked, set my flashlight down to relieve myself, and while doing so, looked up at the rock wall and saw the Rosy climbing in a horizontal crack in the rock. Temp was 68 degrees.
El ejemplar se decomiso por PROFEPA, se recolectó en Isla Todos Santos. La foto se tomo en la FC UABC.
This snake was found in an area of bear creek lake park that is at risk of being flooded and inundated by the potential expansion of the reservoir. Visit savebearcreeklakepark.org to see how you can help save this animal’s, and countless others’ habitats.
Found on the trail basking. Thought it was dead at first, but very much alive, and delivered a few painless bites. Incredibly exciting, lucky find. By far the better of my two this season. Please help protect this fantastic population of lampros!
These two sidewinders were not mating, and appeared merely to be lying in a pile. The much larger sidewinder appeared to be gravid.
Found near the south fork of the Kern river. Approximately 13°C and sunny. Appeared to be a female.

Common King Snake (California). Very aggressive and defensive.
Gravid female leopard lizards were all over the road for the few days we were there.

Lives at barn. Have seen the trail for years. Finally saw its maker.
Found eating a 6 or 7 day-old Inyo California Towhee nestling during permitted surveys.
Habitat developed all around location and habitat "restoration" bulldozed the area for native plants killing this snake and many others like it.
rosy boa in rock crevice, wasn’t able to get it out yet
not exact location but close
My first patternless Northern Alligator Lizard! Right next to the base of a fallen tree, it darted into a hole after I took these pictures.
Both snakes were found under a flat rock along a stream in dense fir/cedar forest.
Juvenile. Found about 100 feet up on a rock climb
I was climbing Coatimundi Whiteout and about to get to the roof when I felt something slide through my fingers as I was about to make a hand jam. Turned out to be this snake, a few hundred feet off the ground, living its best life in a vertical crack.
Snakes are mating; they are outside of a small fenced garden patch.
Within 40 feet of the first observation a minute before
Male and female both found in trees.

The first and only Rubber Boa ever found on the Tejon Ranch.
I was focused on the vegetation and luckily my girlfriend noticed this in the trail, that I had walked over!
Location verified on satellite view.
An unexpected surprise.
Observer Comments: was seen swimming in the lake and then crawled into rocks. Size about 1.2 meters. Very likely an escaped pet, or possibly a stow-way. Was never captured.
