Tohono Chul Self-Guided Plant Phenology Trail

This project provides a photographic record of the phenology of the 20 desert plants (19 species) of the Tohono Chul Self-Guided Phenology Trail, which is one of the Partner Sites of the Nature's Notebook Tucson Phenology Trail.

The plants being observed are: # 1 Larrea tridentata (creosote bush), # 2 Parkinsonia microphylla (Foothills palo verde), # 3 Olneya tesota (desert ironwood), # 4 Fouquieria splendens (Ocotillo), # 5 Chilopsis linearis (Desert Willow), # 6 Carnegiea gigantea (Saguaro), # 7 Yucca elata (Soaptree Yucca), # 8 Encelia farinosa (Brittlebush), # 9 Penstemon parryi (Parry’s Penstemon), # 10 Zinnia acereosa (Desert Zinnia), # 11 Parkinsonia florida (Blue Paloverde), # 12 Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba-male and female), # 13 Prosopis glandulosa (Honey Mesquite), # 14 Vachellia constricta (Whitethorn Acacia), # 15 Prosopis velutina (Velvet Mesquite), # 16 Ferocactus wislizeni (Fishhook barrel cactus), # 17 Juglans major (Arizona Walnut), # 18 Celtis reticulata (Netleaf Hackberry), # 19 Asclepias linaria (Pineleaf milkweed)

Phenology observations have been submitted weekly to Nature's Notebook beginning in February 2019 and can be accessed using the Nature's Notebook visualization tool. Self-guided and docent-led tours of the Public Phenology Trail are planned for 2020. less ↑
