To map individuals of all wild, native oak species at fine resolution across all of Maryland for biodiversity research. Oaks dominate many of the forests in Maryland, and white oak is the state tree. Many scientists are interested in understanding what factors influence their distributions, what factors affect their biodiversity, and how might oak forests change in a changing world. The first step to address these questions is to map species distributions at fine scale. The project coordinator is visiting many sites with oak forests for research projects on their genetics and ecology. If you would like to learn more or further contribute to oak research in Maryland, please contact the project curator.
