A checklist of plants and animals that make their home in the Eastport Neighborhood of Annapolis, Maryland. The purpose of this project is to engage the community with the wildlife that is right under their nose. Project Eastport provides a forum to learn what is living in the neighborhood and where, interaction with naturalists of all skill levels, and the ability to contribute to science with only a camera and computer.
All observations are welcome, including multiple sightings of one species throughout the neighborhood and unidentified organisms (the community will help to ID!).
There are only two requirements for observations: 1.) must be georeferenced (see #4 below) and 2.) must be observed in or from Eastport. Below are some recommended guidelines:
-
Add a simple description of where you observed the organism: lawn, in freshwater pool, in Spa Creek, in alley, planted in flowerbed, etc.
-
If you are definite that the species was planted or an escaped "pet", please add a note in the species description.
-
Make sure to note anything that isn't visible in the picture that may help in the ID of your observation.
-
Use the map to search for the approximate location, if adding from web application, and then zoom into map and double-click to add a marker at the exact location.
