Buttercup Doubletail (Diuris aequalis)

The buttercup doubletail is an orchid found on the NSW Southern and Central tablelands in forests and grassy woodlands located near the Great Dividing Range. It has golden-yellow to orange flowers and differs from most other Diuris species in not having markings (dots or stripes) on the flowers. It is known as a ‘donkey orchid’ for to its widely spaced ear-like petals above the centre of the flower. And it’s ‘doubletail’ are two green sepals below the centre of the flower that are long and narrow, and often curved across each other.

The buttercup doubletail was once far more common than it is today. We are asking land owners, managers and national park visitors in the project area to let us know if they see the species in October, November and December of 2017 and 2018. Our intention is to assist land managers secure the species in the wild. less ↑
