I'm a surveyor, and sometimes I need to know what kind of tree it is. I've surveyed a huge lot where one line runs from a forked pine to a post oak. When I got to the oak (the distance between them was wrong), I could tell it's an oak (it has typical oak leaves, which not all oaks do), but I didn't know a post oak from any other oak.

I live in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Some of my observations are of trees toppled by Helene.
