My main interest is in recording all living species on my block at Watsonville, Queensland, and in the Walsh River and Watsonville Flora, Fauna and Fungi Project area.

I am also striving to identify individual specimens of certain reptiles that I see regularly, such as Carpet Pythons, Yellow-faced Whipsnakes and Lace Monitors, which have distinctive personal markings. This enables monitoring their movements, growth rates and any other relevant data.

Observations of species that I have no special interest in are being recorded for the benefit of others who are studying these species/genera. Finding something ‘new’ is a bonus.

Another objective is to help compile a data base of local flora, fauna and fungi, for local observers to reference for ID or other relevant information, before embarking on a broader search.

With repeat observations of certain species, I am striving to record the frequency of sightings throughout the span of the various seasons or larger timescales, so that information on weather, climate, meteorological anomalies, et al can be extrapolated by whoever may be interested for whatever purpose. In the case of larger species such as mammals and birds, an increase or decrease in population numbers can be readily seen, which may indicate changed habitat conditions, or a shift in the predator/prey heirarchy, whether by natural or introduced means.
