Hello fellow iNaturalist users! I was a birder for many years, but then tried out a macro lens and got really into insect photography and identifying. I mostly report insects and other fauna near where I live and work in Sacramento, California, USA.

My favorite taxa include Robber Flies (Asilidae), Hover Flies (Syrphidae), Soldier Flies (Stratiomyidae), Dragon/Damselflies (Odonata), and Lady Beetles (Coccinellidae).

I am very much for renaming any species currently named after a person, especially if that person was horrible. If you haven't heard, North American birds are currently being renamed to correct for this (how about plants, fungi, and all animals next!?).

Since 2023 most of my photos have been candid insect photos using natural light and my Canon Rebel T7 with a Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro lens. On 5/17/2024 I upgraded my macro lens to a 150mm f/2.8 and I'm LOVING it.

My profile pic is a male robber fly from genus Neoitamus (Now known as Bentbristles!). I look forward to them appearing every April in my area.
