Description

I saw one House Finch on a Striped Maple. Although he was pretty immobile, the House Finch was engaging in a call and response with another House Finch that was out of sight. They were doing this for over an hour!

Description

Two Song Sparrows seen. One was chasing after the other. They were surprisingly quick and continued this display (or fight) for about 3 minutes until they both left the area.

Description

Killdeer were very active today. Saw 5 of them all around a fallen White Pine (this is also the location I saw 2 American Robins on the ground. They did not seem to be bothered by each other in the slightest).

Description

The Pileated Woodpecker was noticably larger than the Downy Woodpeckers I had seen previously in the area. Was pecking at a large White Pine for about 20 minutes.

Description

Here is a Ruffed Grouse egg. The dark speckles are simple dirt, but it is an off-white, cream color. Do not worry, I am not an egg nabbed! While I was walking to my site location my dog found the nest, grabbed an egg and quickly ran off with it. Although she cracked the egg, I returned it to the location where it was found although I could not find the nest.

Beautiful Blue Jay seen in a small Sugar Maple on my walk back. Usually when the Blue Jays seem to dart around and call often but this one seemed pretty docile. It didn't move from its perch once.

Description

Although I couldn't find the flock, they were very loud somewhere on the other side of the pond I set up shop. The creek was too high to cross but they were most likely roaming around an old corn field that is about 100 feet through the woods on the other side of the pond.
