A little over 100 species of micro-snails occur in the Wellington region. The species richest forest land snail community occurs in the Wainuiomata Waterworks Reserve but even the mahoe-gorse-barberry regrowth shrublands/forest along the Wellington skyline hold over 20 species. On top of Mount Kaukau we actually found a new species of wingless dung fly under the divaricating shrubs in litter next cow dung.
