New to iNaturalist or Plant Photography?

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for joining the Sarasota & Manatee EcoFlora Project! Our main goal is to identify and observe as many plants as possible in Sarasota and Manatee counties. To do this we need clear photos of plants with as many parts clearly photographed as possible. This includes the stems, leaves, how leaves are placed on stems, flowers, trunks of trees, and any unique characteristics. Need help learning how? Check out the Selby Gardens Downtown Campus page linked below for iNaturalist instructional videos, news on the latest challenges, and wonderful videos of Selby's very own botanists talking about EcoFlora!

For those who may be more experienced please be sure to participate in our EcoQuests, month long projects Like Into the Night that test your skills at finding different groups of cacti as outlined in our last journal post. Also we are always interested in plant-animal interactions. If you see a butterfly pollinating at a certain flower or insect associated with a plant be sure to tag them together under notes and the tag option.

As always thanks for helping document and observe our local Flora with the EcoFlora Project at Selby Gardens!

Regards,
Sean Patton

Very nice Shawn. Somehow, I didn't see this when I first signed up; it probably would have alleviated a few early mistakes I made.

The project is still quite new so we are also working out the kinks, especially in these tumultuous times! Very glad we could help you Claira Herzog, if there is anything else that would help us help you or other citizen scientists using iNaturalist please let us know! - Sean Patton
