Description

this observation is for the plant that is that is shorter with 'leaves' that terminate in prominent wavy hairs; with branched stems that is growing intermingled with a larger plant as described below

the other one - slightly taller, and whose 'leaves' are sort of flat looking, pointed at the end and do not terminate in prominent wavy hairs; and whose stems are apparently unbranched can be identified in this observation https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/15900131

Description

three of us were standing beside a beaver pond surrounded by spruce and tamarack forest watching a flock of 21 waxwings perched in the top of a leafless tree.

This bird leisurely flew towards the tree and the waxwings dove for cover - the sky was overcast and the light was not strong - the bird appeared as a silhouette against the sky and the initial thought was that it was another raven - of which we had seen many that day - though the behaviour of the waxwings was not in keeping with it being a raven.

The bird continued into the distance and the waxwings rearranged themselves in another leafless tree and we resumed taking pictures of them.

This bird then returned and made another pass closer overhead and we could see it was clearly a bird of prey. As the waxwings scattered, we took photos of this second pass.
