Spotted many growing on my hike all that I observed were growing at the base of an Oak tree. Pore surface always dark black red inside flesh is white. Not hard but not too soft. My knife cut through it easily, and no I'm not bragging about how sharp my knife is. I finally figured out how to putva descent edge on a knife.
