Tree with scraping marks. Lowest mark was about 16" above the ground, and highest 32". Some marks were fresh, and other older. Perhaps some sort of hoof or tusk marks?

Growing in middle of gravel road near walnut orchard. Plant was prostrate, over 8 inches in diameter. Not much in the way of basal leaves, and certainly no red veins or red staining. Three to four nutlets.

Western Sycamore (Platanus racemosa)Observer

Damaged sycamore from SCU Lightning Complex fire of August 2020. First photo, taken from the trail, shows a large fire scar at the base of the sycamore. The other photos show the other side of the same tree. The fire apparently burned up through the trunk and caused a large portion of the tree to fall. Last photo shows an overview.
