What

Leaf-footed Bugs and Allies (Superfamily Coreoidea)

Observer

erethidor

Date

August 12, 2018 10:33 AM EDT

Description

3 golden drops in a row. I'm assuming they're eggs, but I don't know eggs of what. There definitely seems to be something inside.

They are on the underside of a common milkweed leaf.

What

Thymes (Genus Thymus)

Observer

Date

June 28, 2014

Description

The closest ID I came up with is Self heal (Prunella vulgaris), but even that doesn't look right.

It looks like it's a ground-hugging plant.

What

American Hophornbeam (Ostrya virginiana)

Observer

Date

June 18, 2012

Description

I was relatively confident in my identification (even though the bark isn't a perfect match for any pictures I've seen in guides) until someone said this species is rare in this region. I've been looking for confirmation since then because I see it everywhere in this park.

Description

I found this individual under a flower umbel, near a stream, about 45 minutes before sunset.

It's not the best possible picture, since it wasn't actually the subject of the photo, but I was wondering if anyone could narrow the identification down to the species.

Cross Orbweaver (Araneus diadematus)

Observer

Description

Habitat: my balcony. Shaded, but not particularly humid nor near a water body.

It pretty much spent most of the day in its web and it stayed active until fairly late fall.
