Eco Evo Nature Walk 3 (plants)

I went hiking in a new trail today and had a lot of fun exploring (although I ended up getting lost halfway). The weather was really nice - high 60s to low 70s with a slight breeze and clear skies. I saw a lot of interesting plants and trees. There was a river that ran by the trail I walked and I was hoping to get pictures of some cool aquatic plants, but there were only rocks by the river bank. I did see what looked like moss(?) growing on the rocks in the river but when I tried to take a picture of them the reflection of the water made it impossible to see the plant. I saw a lot of pretty flowers along the trail as well. The colorful flowers and colorful fall leaves made the hike really pretty and enjoyable. I also saw a toad during my hike and a really interesting looking insect on one of the flowers. I saw a fungus as well, which I never would've noticed if not for the past module we spent learning about fungi. Overall, it was nice to relax and go for a long walk during the extended weekend without having to worry about assignment deadlines and other responsibilities.

Eco Evo Nature Walk 2

I went to a hiking trail in my local park for this nature walk. The weather was nice - not too hot or too cold (~60F) - and cloudy. It had rained earlier in the day and the weather forecast anticipated more rain later in the day. I saw more people than usual at the trail, especially young adults around my age, which was unusual. I usually see older people or parents with really young kids whenever I go hiking. Overall, it was nice to take a break from schoolwork and go outside to enjoy some fresh air and nature. I saw a lot of fungi on my hike and almost all of them were growing on dead trees.

Eco Evo Nature Walk 1

I went to one of my favorite hiking trails for my nature walk. The weather was pretty chilly and windy. It was drizzling as well and I almost slipped and fell a couple of times. I went on the walk right after I finished my last midterm for the week, and it was nice to be able to go outside, unwind, and get some fresh air after being cooped up in my room for days from cramming. Furthermore, it was amazing to see how much the leaves had changed in the span of a couple of days - less than a week ago almost all of the trees were a rich, lush green and now almost half of them have changed to varying shades of red, orange, brown, and yellow. Another interesting thing I noticed from my walk was how abundant fungi were at the trail I went to, yet I never really noticed them whenever I went hiking in the past. Additionally, I noticed that almost all of the fungi (at least the ones I were able to notice) were growing on dead trees. This might be because the decaying tree provides a good source of nutrients for the fungi.
