Because I didn't have time to complete the first nature walk last week, I completed it today. While I was in the Newton Woods, I noticed some fungi, so I decided to make observations for the second nature walk too. As was the case for my other journal entry, the weather was overcast and threatened rain. As a result of this and some recent rain, the ground was damp. This improved our chances of finding fungi because they tend to grow with moisture. It was interesting to see and compare the different species of fungi and where they grew. Overall, a very productive trip to Newton, as I was surprised at the diversity of organisms I could find there. However, while eating dinner on Newton, I noticed my observations of fungi for this trip were only about five minutes apart because I found them all in a relatively close area. As a result, I made another observation upon returning to the BC campus to extend this time, but based on this entry and the previous one, there is proof that I was walking around Newton Woods for about 35-40 minutes.
