Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin

Tursiops aduncus

In the Adelaide region 2

Near indistinguishable from the Common Bottlenose Dolphin and the two species are often confused, this one is usually found in shallower waters. Can be seen all along the coast, but notably in the Port Adelaide River estuary-Barker Inlet, which has a permanent population of 30 or so and has been declared the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary. One of the most common marine mammals in the region.
